Freiburg has a small airport Euro-Airport Basel-Mulhouse. Swiss Air and Easy Jet offer frequent flights from many European destinations. The shuttle bus AirportBus run by "Freiburger Reisedienst" departs regularly from the Busbahnhof (central bus station) located next to the Freiburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station). Transfer time to the Euro-Airport is about 50 minutes (approx. 18€ one-way). Please make sure to leave the airport on the French side, not the Swiss side.
Major airhubs are Zürich and Frankfurt International Airport, both a 2-hour train ride from Freiburg. Stuttgart Airport is another option, but requires at least one change of trains to Freiburg.
Another small airport is Flughafen Karlsruhe Baden-Baden (Ryan Air, Air Berlin). Recommended transfer via taxi from the airport to Baden-Baden, then ICE-train 45 min to Freiburg.
Strasbourg Airport can be reached in approx. 45 min. per car (Europcar, station Freiburg Hauptbahnhof). The train ride to Freiburg main rail station is about 1 hour.
